Tottenham player ratings: Sessegnon nightmare as Alli fades again

T

ottenham’s Europa Conference League campaign hit another stumbling block as they were beaten 2-1 by Slovenian minnows NS Mura.

Could do nothing about the goal and did not have another save to make.

Slipped in the build-up to Horvat’s goal but only after he’d gotten himself into a dreadful position anyway. Looked uncomfortable on the left of a back-three before Sessegnon red card forced switch.

One of only two players to continue from the Premier League side as Conte sought another look at his likeliest Cristian Romero replacement but had to be shifted to left-back after Sessegnon red card and then to the right after changes.

Easily the best of Spurs’ defenders and made a crucial last-man tackle. Story of his Spurs career when hooked after half-time while Sanchez stayed on the field.

Touch looked rusty and wasteful with his final ball. Like Sessegnon, blew an opportunity to impress a manager desperate to implement a system which should suit him.

Tidy enough in possession and has himself into the ground to make up for man disadvantage but midfield balance looked off.

A driving force on the ball who looked most likely to create an opening during a turgid first half, though left Skipp exposed at times.

One blocked shot was the sum of his offensive contributions before two rash challenges prompted a red card on 32 minutes. Quite simply, a nightmare.

Frustrated when two good runs in behind were not spotted early on but then faded badly. Spared the humiliation of another half-time withdrawal, but only just.

Runs around lots looking energetic, but, unfortunately, not threatening.

For 72 minutes, the promise of an improved performance against Leeds was fading but hope will be that a superb, composed finish represents another step towards his best form under Conte.

Ben Davies (Doherty 54’) 6

Never tested but brought stability.

Heung-min Son (Gil 54’) 6

Went close to an equaliser soon after introduction but was otherwise quiet.

Eric Dier (Rodon 54’) 6

Like Davies, added calm and leadership to the backline.

Lucas Moura (Dele 54’) 6

Picked up an assist for Kane’s goal, albeit in rather fortuitous fashion given defenders should have intercepted his pass.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (Ndombele 75’)

Unused: Lloris, Austin, Reguilon, Emerson, Winks.
