Mehmooda Duke stands down as Leicestershire chair

ehmooda Duke has resigned as Leicestershire chair with immediate effect.

Duke was preparing to stand down in March 2022 but has decided to leave the role early and said cricket had been “torn apart” by the continuing allegations of racism from within the game.

“Cricket has been torn apart by recent events and I am deeply saddened by the hurt felt by individuals within our game,” she said in a statement posted on the club’s official website.

“With fresh leadership at national level and with a determination to learn from the recent past and move forward, I hope that racism and discrimination will be expunged from the dressing rooms, the fields, and the game as a whole, allowing us to celebrate the diversity which makes cricket and sport in this country so great”.

Current Vice-Chairman Jonathan Duckworth will step up to the role on an interim basis until the club’s 2022 AGM.
