The press service of the French Foreign Ministry reported that one of the French diplomats was ordered to leave Moscow. Quay d’Orsay lamented the “unfair decision” and noted that no legal grounds were presented for this.

The head of the French Foreign Ministry, Catherine Colonna, instructed Moscow to come up with proposals for a response. She stressed that French diplomats act in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. French Ambassador to Moscow Pierre Levy was summoned to Smolenskaya Square on June 19. He was told that the accreditation of the embassy’s cultural attache, Fabrice Rousseau, would not be extended after the expiration date of July 17, 2022, RIA Novosti reported.

Fabrice Rousseau is suspected in Moscow of organizing the covert financing of an “independent information site” and the human rights organization “Memorial”. “Memorial” was liquidated for violating the Russian law on foreign agents by court decision. In fact, Rousseau was declared a persona non grata (undesirable person) in Russia.
